Landmark payout guaranteed thanks to Lottoland’s EU regulated Insurance Linked Securities (ILS) model
Gibraltar – 05th May 2016
Online lottery betting leader Lottoland is delighted to announce a record €22 million jackpot winner.
The winner, Matthias, from Berlin, Germany, hit the top prize after betting on the outcome of the popular 6aus49 draw (6 from 49) on Saturday April 30th, 2016.
Matthias has become the fifth Lottoland multi-millionaire since December 2015; hot on the heels of €3.2m wins in March and a record €14m win in February. Prior to this, a Lottoland player won $2m USD on the world record US PowerBall in January, while another walked away €4m richer after scooping the top prize on Spain’s Christmas El Gordo lottery.
Lottoland’s latest winner has already made plans for his new-found wealth, saying he intends to quit his job, spend more time with his family and buy a Ferrari. Matthias also plans to donate some of the money to charity.
On his big win, Matthias commented: “Now I can buy a Ferrari – in classic red! I’ll be leaving my job to spend more time with my family. I want to spend time reading, relaxing and I also want to get my motorcycle license.”
Lottoland CEO Nigel Birrell congratulated Matthias on the record win, calling it a ‘landmark’ moment for the industry: “More and more players from around the world are waking up to the fact that they can play for the biggest jackpots the world has to offer at Lottoland.
“Matthias’ record €22m win is a landmark moment both for our business and the industry at large and we look forward to breaking more records in the future.”
Lottoland allows players to bet on the world’s biggest lotteries, with the opportunity to win all the same prizes – including the jackpot. Major draws available at Lottoland include the EuroMillions, US PowerBall and MegaMillions, Spain’s El Gordo and many more from Europe and across the globe.
Lottoland is able to offer all of the above thanks to its innovative Insurance Linked Securities (ILS) model. The ILS product provides protection to Lottoland against large payouts, giving its players access to the largest lottery jackpots in the world. Lottoland’s ILS was used for February’s €14m payout, and will be used to guarantee the record €22m win.
Lottoland’s portfolio of ILS-backed lottery betting products is now available for integration with other gaming operators thanks to the company’s B2B arm, Lottoland Solutions.
Mr Birrell said, “We’ve opened the door for other gaming companies to offer these incredibly attractive jackpot games to their players at zero risk.
“Lottoland Solutions has already witnessed great demand from operators keen to offer our innovative lottery betting product to their customers and we look forward to providing even more players with the opportunity to win life-changing jackpots.”
