Online lottery operator Lottoland has launched in Italy, buying a majority stake in Italian lottery company Giochi24.
Giochi24 was one of the first companies to get approval by the Italian regulator Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli.
Lottoland has also launched its own Italian site, enabling players based in Italy to buy a ticket and play lotteries, including SuperEnalotto, 10e Lotto, scratchcards, instant win games, bingo and casino games.
With the acquisition of Giochi24 and its licence for the Italian market, Lottoland adds its eighth national gambling licence to its portfolio, after the UK (three licences), Ireland, Australia and Gibraltar (two licences).
Lottoland’s CEO Nigel Birrell said: “We are delighted to have partnered with Giochi24 and to enter into the regulated Italian market. Italy is a vibrant, growing market with huge potential and we are very confident there is a strong appetite for our jackpot offering.”
Paolo Di Feo, CEO of Giochi24, added: “We are very excited to have partnered with Lottoland and the opportunities that will bring to both businesses. We are also thrilled to be able to provide Italian players with two sites, Giochi24.it and Lottoland.it. We are now in a great position to fulfil our mission – to have the most complete offering of games of luck and lotteries that are approved by the regulator and available to players in a simple and easy format.”
